Taking a picture of lightning with a camera usually requires either very good luck or expensive equipment. With an iPhone and a bit of patience, it’s much easier!
The same technique applies to anything where getting the exact timing for the perfect frame is difficult or impossible. For instance, a flag flapping in the wind, something fragile hitting the floor and breaking, or lightning flashing across the sky.

- Aim where you think/hope it might happen
- Press the shutter when you think the event is happening, and hold still for a second. For example, when you see a flash of lightning in your view, press the shutter as fast as your reflexes allow. At this time, your phone reaches back into its internal memory for the previous 1.5 seconds, and will record the next 1.5 seconds.
- Edit the live photo to select the perfect frame from a 3-second capture
